We understand that sustainability starts at the source.
We’re completely vertically integrated, meaning
we can stay committed to efficiency and sustainability
at every step of the process. The materials we
use are ultra-absorbent which cuts the amount
of dye, water and resources we use.
A traditional pair of jeans uses about 1,500 gallons of water to manufacture. A pair of DL1961 jeans uses less than 10. These savings are achieved as we recycle and treat 98% of the water used with a state-of-the-art water recycling system. This in-house plant operates with a flow rate of 1900 cubic meters an hour, eliminating dye from the water, and reintroducing the water back into municipal drains.
It all starts with certified cotton, then we add in technologically advanced fibers for minimal environmental impact and maximum quality. Whether it's Modal?, Tencel? or Refibra? Lyocell, all the Lenzing? fibers we use are made from cellulose which comes from a renewable wood source and are known for their biodegradability.
Touted for their durability and derived from nature, all Lenzing? brand fiber types have been certified as compostable and biodegradable, and can fully revert back to nature. It’s what makes the fiber manufacturer a pioneer in sustainable textiles.
Known for its softness, Tencel? also has excellent drape, doesn’t wrinkle easily, and holds dye well, making for an efficient manufacturing process. This plant-based fiber is extremely breathable and manages moisture better than conventional fabrics.
Formulated from beech tree pulp, Modal? has revolutionized the textile industry with its lightweight, stretchy, and breathable nature. It’s equal parts soft and more durable, an ideal component for performance denim.
Derived from eucalyptus trees, which grow quickly and without irrigation or virtually any pesticides, Lyocell? is known for its soft touch and being 50% more absorbent than cotton. Plus, it’s formulated with Refibra? Technology, which involves upcycling cotton scraps and wood pulp to produce new fibers and make fabrics. Perfect for bridging the gap between performance and luxury.
We use certified cotton that ensures quality control while it undergoes our processes and meets environmental standards. Our cotton is either:
By using laser machines and Ozone technology, we eliminate the need for harmful chemicals and bleach in our finishing processes. We use Dystar 40% VAT, a clean form of liquid indigo. We’re one of only 12 mills on the planet to utilize this pre-reduced indigo blend that minimizes water usage and has no harmful byproducts.
